Team Nigeria

Team Nigeria is the Nigerian Team which competes at the summer Olympic Games, youth Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and All African Games. Team selection is made from the best sportsmen and women by the Nigerian Olympic Committee in conjunction with the national governing bodies. There are 26 sports in the Olympic Programme and Team Nigeria to date has participated in 12 different sports. The 10 events Team Nigeria competed in at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 was the most to date at a single games.

2012 will be the best team yet

The declared aim of Team Nigeria for 2012 is to take athletes who will not just compete in the Games, but have an outstanding chance of either medalling or being the best African representatives.

Team Nigeria is selected from a group of Olympic hopefuls across basketball, wrestling, athletics, taekwondo, weightlifting, and table tennis, who are all training and competing for the chance to represent their country at London 2012.

At the London 2012 Olympic Games Team Nigeria will be the largest single team to represent the nation at a summer Olympics, and we'll be better prepared, equipped and supported than any of our predecessors in over 50 years.

Team Nigeria will compete in more sports and more disciplines and our mission is to deliver best performance, more medals, from more sports. The athletes who compete for Team Nigeria are ordinary men and women with extraordinary talents.

There is only one Olympic team from Nigeria and that is Team Nigeria. There is not an Olympic men's football team or an Olympic table tennis team. The individual sports join to become Team Nigeria, the Nigerian Olympic Team.
